Urban Strategies Council joins the entire East Bay community in mourning the passing of William “Bill” Patterson; a dedicated public servant, civic leader and a valued member of Urban Strategies Council’s Board of Directors. Bill’s decades of leadership reflected his deep commitment to equity, public health and environmental justice; values that have long guided both his service and our own.
Bill was a tireless advocate for the Oakland community. His work with Urban Strategies demonstrated his lifelong belief in inclusion, fairness and opportunity for all. We, at Urban Strategies, were fortunate to benefit from his wisdom, compassion and unwavering belief in the power of collaboration to build stronger, more equitable communities.
Bill’s legacy will continue to inspire our work. We honor his memory by reaffirming our shared commitment to service, equity and the well-being of the communities he so passionately served.
Bill Patterson’s public memorial service will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 10AM, at the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center in Oakland.
Teri Carlyle, the longtime Director of Finance at Urban Strategies, has very fond memories of Mr. Patterson. She writes:
“What impressed me most about Mr. Bill Patterson is the public display of his love and affection for his beloved, late wife, Euradell “Dell” Patterson. Although, Ms. Dell was experiencing health challenges later in life, she was always by Bill’s side. She often attended the Board meetings at Urban Strategies Council. I applauded and celebrated his love and devotion while caring for his wife. He was the epitome of a husband taking his vow of “for better or worse, in sickness and in health” seriously. He will be deeply missed by all of us at Urban Strategies.”
