
KAREN CHIN
Program Coordinator – Youth Fellows
Karen Chin (she/they) is a queer Asian American organizer and program manager born and raised in San Francisco. A graduate of the University of Kansas with a BSE in Community Health, Karen brings over a decade of experience in the nonprofit sector working at the intersections of grassroots organizing, civic engagement, and youth development. Karen has led impactful youth-centered initiatives, including a 2020 Census Ambassadors Program and a youth-led Rapid Community Assessment on COVID-19 vaccine confidence in partnership with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and San Mateo County. Their deep commitment to building power with directly impacted communities is critical to creating programs that center healing, equity, and intergenerational leadership. Organizational and project management skills make them proficient in executing and facilitating strategic program development in the community.
Karen identifies as a queer artist, educator, and lifelong learner. In their free time, Karen serves as a Board Member for The Organization for Asian Pan American Advocacy (OCA), San Francisco Chapter, where they support the development and implementation of educational and professional development activities in the Asian American community.
Karen is the child of immigrant refugees from Laos, with family originating from Laos, Vietnam, Taiwan, and mainland China. They earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from The University of Kansas, where they received the David Shulenburger Award for their active involvement in The Office of Multicultural Affairs.
