John Jones, III
Director of Programs
John Jones, III, is Urban Strategies’ Director of Programs. He comes to us as a radical community organizer, steeped in the traditions that support the building of organizations, institutions, and those collectives that serve poor and working-class Black people. He comes to the table with the momentum to make a change in the material conditions of everyone living in the neighborhoods of Oakland and the greater Bay Area. John works with groups to gain political and economic power and increase neighborhood resources (land, property, money, and people). A third-generation resident of East Oakland, John seeks to transform his community by utilizing his experiences and expertise as a Consultant, Life Coach, and Subject Matter Expert. A dad of three, John has worked at the local, regional, and state levels on ballot measures and the development of much-needed programs and services.
As the Director of Programs, John’s most immediate plans are to strengthen the internal capacities of Urban Strategies and its staff, to operate at greater organizational efficacy, as well as in collaboration with our many partner organizations. John is well-respected and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders, including elected officials and local/state decision-makers.
John possesses that rare ability to unite, inspire, and eliminate political divisions. He will be a welcome asset to Urban Strategies’ arsenal of experts.
