BASIC:
BAY AREA SYSTEMS
IMPACTED CONSORTIUM

BASIC is a regional consortium of campus-based programs that support persistence, retention and postsecondary goal completion by justice systems-involved and -impacted college students. Launched by the Council in April 2017, BASIC works to: celebrate and acknowledge the advancement of participating students, uplift the support programs of participating campuses, develop sustainable funding to ensure their ongoing success, encourage the development of these programs on campuses where they do not yet exist, and support capacity building among programs to prioritize common needs.

Campus-based support programs are emerging as an education success strategy for justice systems-involved and -impacted students throughout California’s three systems of public higher education.  Most of these programs have minimal, if any funding, and often remain isolated on their own campuses to the detriment of their students.
