Parent Engagement and Education Project
The Council is working with the East Bay Community Foundation and OUSD to pilot a series of Board and school convenings to implement Board policies for regularized interaction between board members and the school neighborhoods they represent. During the 2008 – 2009 school year, the Council supported Board of Education members to conduct two community meetings at each of their district’s high schools and “Red” tiered schools (the lowest achieving schools).
The Council works with the school district and the East Bay Community Foundation to plan, implement, document and assess the board engagement process. By piloting the Community Conversations, the Board established a set of procedures for regular and formal interaction between board members and their constituents to inform the ongoing governance of the district to ensure that district policy reflects the concerns of families at school sites.
