Economic Opportunity Program Coordinator

The Council’s Economic Opportunity work focuses on supporting low income residents’ efforts to increase economic opportunity for themselves, their families and their communities. We focus on employment and income supports, workforce development, low-cost financial products, asset accumulation, community ownership, and equitable economic development.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Council seeks a Program Coordinator for the Economic Opportunity (EO) Program. This position is a combination of content expertise required to identify, develop and implement projects, and process skills in terms of facilitation, planning, and coalition building. The Program Coordinator will provide general support to projects in the EO Program, including:
Existing Projects
- Primary staffing of the Alameda County Community Asset Network (AC CAN) www.alamedacountycan.org, a coalition of over 30 organizations. AC CAN builds the capacity of members to increase the income and assets of low-income families. AC CAN is a Lead Local Organization in the national CFED Assets and Opportunity Network and the recipient with the Alameda County Public Health Department of a national Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant using income protection strategies as a means to public health promotion.
- Represent the Council on external coalitions and partnerships as appropriate

Alameda County Public Health Department’s Building Blocks and Place Matters initiatives
Health Wealth Connection Collaborative of the East Bay Support the Council’s involvement in Equitable Economic Development and Community Benefits Agreement initiatives.
Projects in Development
- Staff support on the Council’s emerging Community Wealth & Ownership Initiative to develop a worker cooperative and community asset building infrastructure.
- Explore opportunities and support expansion of the Council’s emerging workforce development efforts, including potential work related to Workforce Investment Board, job placement and retention systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Program design and implementation
- Writing and materials development
- Work plan development and management
- Communication with partners, funders, and broader audiences
Coalition staffing, process design and facilitation
- Project and people coordination
- Process design, visual and written materials
- Develop agendas and supporting documents
- In-meeting facilitation, chart writing, notes, etc.
- Communication and follow-up
Networking, recruitment and relationship building
Grant writing and reporting
Research, opportunity analysis and strategic planning related to EO projects
Capacity building tool identification and development including training and presentation delivery
Other responsibilities as identified by Executive Staff or through the course of work
The ideal candidate will have an understanding of economic issues facing low-income families and communities of color and the programs and policies that affect them, and a demonstrated commitment to serving those communities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree preferred. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Public Policy, Urban Planning, Social Work, Economics, Sociology, or related field
Content knowledge in economic opportunity: asset building, economic development, workforce development or related field
Demonstrated ability in coalition building, community organizing or related skills
Comfort and ability in process design, meeting planning and facilitation
Experience designing, developing, implementing and evaluating programs
Facility with outcomes tracking and evaluation Demonstrated research and analysis skills, sophisticated consumer of data
Ability to analyze, synthesize and articulate public policy to a wide range of audiences
Facility with grant writing and fundraising
Good public speaking skills, including presentation and training delivery
Experience in curriculum development, adult education and learning styles preferred
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
Organized, self-motivated, with great attention to detail
Demonstrated ability with computer systems and social media Knowledge and familiarity with Bay Area economic opportunity field preferred
Demonstrated commitment to economic justice
POSITION TIME REQUIREMENTS
Full time, 37.5 hour work week
COMPENSATION
Salary from $50,000-$65,000 annually with benefits, depending on qualifications
