Community Education and Engagement Project
In partnership with the East Bay Community Foundation (EBCF) and California Tomorrow (CT), this project is designed to increase community understanding of and engagement in Expect Success!, the re-design plan of the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD). The Council works with EBCF and CT to select and support community-based organizations to conduct community convenings over the next two years across the city.
Community Convenings
EBCF is convening meetings about the reform with Oakland’s faith, labor and philanthropy communities. For a current calendar of these Community Convenings, please see EBCF's webpage.
Intended Participant Outcomes for the School Community Convenings:
- Where their school stands on district score cards of student achievement and family satisfaction.
- The progress of Expect Success! (ES!) and how it should be working to improve student outcomes.
- How ES! will affect their family.
- The district staff responsible for parts of ES! and ways for community to participate in school improvement at the school and district levels
- What they want to learn more about

Two plans to improve schools:
- The Community Plan for Accountability in Schools (ComPAS) is a plan to share responsibility for improving schools among parents, families, community members and school personnel.
- The Multi-year Academic Acceleration Plan (MAAP) is a plan to close achievement gaps.
