Alameda County Violence Prevention

Phase II Work Plan Released

In July 2009, the Council, along with the Prevention Institute and Hill and Company Communications, released the Phase II Work Plan for the Alameda County Violence Prevention Initiative. The work plan focuses on developing a violence prevention plan within six target neighborhoods and has identified youth and formerly incarcerated people as the two target populations. The Council will begin serving as program manager for implementing the Work Plan in January 2010. To see a copy of the plan, click on the link below:

Strategic Planning

The Council is working with County Supervisor Nate Miley's effort to implement the countywide blueprint for violence prevention. The Council CEO is serving as a member of the Leadership Group, which is working with other stakeholders to implement the comprehensive, countywide blueprint and infrastructure for addressing all forms of violence within the county. The Blueprint was adopted by the Board of Supervisors in July of 2005.

Data Work Group

The Council is a member of the Data and Evaluation work Group, convened by Alameda County Public Health Department, to work on data collection and research related to violence and violence prevention and Blueprint Implementation. The Work Group aims to establish a coordinated data collection and analysis process, as well as a central repository for violence prevention data and analysis. We hope to extend the purview of the group to include cataloguing effective violence prevention and reduction strategies in use locally or elsewhere around the country, and making this information available to stakeholders to inform planning, funding, and policy decisions.

Violence Prevention Fact Sheets

The Council recently completed the first in a series of fact sheets for the Alameda County Violence Prevention Initiative. This first fact sheet provides data, maps and information on homicides across Alameda County for the past few years and is available .
