Meeting Notes
October 19, 2000

Present: Don Davenport (Housing SACDC/Economic Develop.), Ron Snyder (OCO-Small Schools), Pat Constantine (VOA-Newspaper), Elena Serrano (ESAA-Arts), Karen Stevenson (Casey Rep.), Jessica Pitt (Urban Strategies Council-Lead Coordinator)

Absent: David Kakishiba (Small Schools/Village Center) and representative from the outreach committee Lynette Lee

Update of last Casey meeting on October 12, 2000

  1. TEAMS Plan - questions came up re: process
    • work should be done with instead of on behalf of the community
    • this topic should be more deeply explored with Bart Lubow
  2. Plans to be made for larger group meetings to discuss housing/economic development, arts and education
    • How do we facilitate these meetings? Questions came up re:
    • re-visiting "Make It Happen" plan and the family strengthening component of each
  3. Resident involvement and the articulation of how our vision translates into family strengthening
    • The suggestion was made to do some narrative writing to lay out what has already been done, what is happening now and where we are going. The piece should begin with "Family strengthening means to us..."

Retreat

  1. Strategic planning meeting to be scheduled
  2. Goal is to collectively bring our projects/areas of focus together to explain how it all relates to previous work done and how it now fits into the family strengthening agenda of the Casey Foundation
    • discuss how the work going on around the table is grounded in previous work
  3. Retreat Agenda
    • Begin with a discussion of how we define "family strengthening" THEN
    • Lay out our plan from "Make It Happen" to now

Meeting with Bart Lubow for Nov. 1 & 2

  1. Restate our understanding of the plan and how we see ourselves in it
  2. How to "make connections" with instead of on behalf of
  3. Funding and technical assistance questions - how the decisions are made
  4. Possible times: Wednesday, November 1 in the AM or Thursday, November 2, 11am-1pm
